Assessment & Diagnosis

At the heart of naturopathic medicine lies a deep commitment to understanding the individual as a whole—physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Our Assessment & Diagnosis process is a cornerstone of this philosophy. It goes far beyond simply labeling symptoms or matching a patient to a diagnosis code. Instead, we seek to uncover the root causes of health imbalances by exploring every aspect of your unique health story.

A Holistic, Patient-Centered Approach

Our process begins with a comprehensive intake session, which may last between 60 to 90 minutes. Unlike conventional medical appointments that often focus on isolated symptoms, we invest time in listening to your concerns, understanding your medical history, and examining how different aspects of your life might be contributing to your current state of health.
We believe that every symptom is a signal—a way your body communicates that something is out of balance. By taking the time to thoroughly assess all aspects of your well-being, we aim to identify the deeper patterns and systemic imbalances that may be affecting your health.

What We Evaluate

During the Assessment & Diagnosis phase, we carefully explore multiple dimensions of your health:

🔹 Medical History Review

We review your full personal and family medical history, including:

  • Past illnesses, infections, and surgeries

  • Childhood health patterns

  • Menstrual and reproductive history (if applicable)

  • Chronic conditions and their progression

  • Family predispositions to genetic or lifestyle-based illnesses

🔹 Lifestyle & Environment

Understanding your lifestyle is essential in naturopathy. We’ll explore:

  • Diet and nutritional habits

  • Physical activity levels

  • Sleep patterns and quality

  • Work-life balance and stressors

  • Environmental exposures (toxins, mold, chemicals, etc.)

🔹 Emotional & Mental Health

Mental well-being is intricately linked to physical health. We’ll gently inquire about:

  • Mood and emotional stability

  • Anxiety, depression, or trauma history

  • Coping mechanisms and resilience

🔹 Digestive Function

As the gut is often referred to as the “second brain,” we pay special attention to:

  • Digestion, absorption, and elimination patterns

  • Bloating, food sensitivities, or IBS symptoms

  • History of antibiotics or gut infections

🔹 Hormonal and Immune Function

We look at patterns suggesting hormonal imbalances, such as:

  • Thyroid function

  • Adrenal fatigue

  • Menstrual irregularities or menopause symptoms

  • Autoimmune conditions

🔹 Energetic & Constitutional Assessment

Drawing on naturopathic and traditional diagnostic methods, we assess your:

  • Vitality and overall energy levels

  • Constitutional type (as understood in holistic systems like Ayurveda or Traditional Chinese Medicine)

  • Tongue, skin, nail, and eye characteristics (if applicable)
